Preparing for the FAFSA for Fall 2023-Spring 2024
Step 1: The student and one parent each get an FSA ID. It is best to set-up the FSA ID several days before you actually want to complete the FAFSA. Your FSA ID is unique; once you complete the process, you use the same FSA ID every time you complete the FAFSA in future years.
To get your FSA ID, you will need your social security number, a personal email, and cell phone number to get started.

If you have an FSA ID, but do not remember the username or password, follow this link to click “forgot username” or “forgot password.”

Step 2: Next gather the documents below. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool allows students and families to transfer data directly from your tax forms to the FAFSA and you will be prompted to do this, so you don’t have to type in everything manually.
Student
The student should gather the following documents prior to completing the FAFSA. The Driver’s License Number is used as another step to verify the student’s identity.
· Social Security Number
· Driver’s License Number (if you have a license)
· Bank statements or electronic access to checking or savings accounts
· 2021 taxes filed (if filed)
· 2021 W2 forms (if applicable)
· Information about untaxed income, such as babysitting or other income not reported on a tax return
· List of colleges where you would like your FAFSA information sent
Parent or Guardian
· Parents’ or Guardian’s Social Security Numbers
· Bank statements or electronic access to checking or savings accounts
· 2021 Tax Returns
· 2021 W2s and other business income statements
· 2021 investment statements
· Records of untaxed income (if applicable) including:
